The Standard Carrier Board for Colibri Modules
Orchid is a computer carrier board that turns Toradex® Colibri modules into ready-to-use computer boards. Orchid provides almost any functionality of a regular industrial PC, but at a much lower power consumption. In addition, the Windows CE operating system has the advantage of high stability and very short startup time. Linux and QNX are also available from third parties. All features are integrated on a small 100x160 mm sized board.
CPU Modules
Orchid can be equipped with all standard Colibri Computer Modules, starting with the ultra low cost Colibri PXA300 (Monahans 208MHz). More powerful options are available with the widely used Colibri PXA270 (Bulverde 312MHz and 520MHz) and the ultra high performance Colibri PXA320 (Monahans 806MHz).
User Interface
Orchid can be attached to a regular CRT or TFT monitor at resolutions of up to 1024x768, using the standard VGA connector. A generic pin header with TTL display signals is available to connect the board to almost any LCD panel. The Orchid DVI Scaler extension board allows resolutions up to Full HD (1092x1080). See DVI Scaler
Peripherals such as keyboard or mouse can be plugged into the USB ports. There is also a regular audio jack for stereo input and output.
Communication
Orchid offers standard connectors for the communication interfaces used to build state-of-the-art products - Ethernet, USB host/client, IrDA and RS232.
Compact Flash and SD/MMC slots allow to add even more functionality such as memory extensions or Wireless LAN.
Target Applications
The Orchid board is designed to meet the requirements of a broad range of applications, such as multimedia terminals, point-of-sale devices, fleet management units, industrial controls, vision systems, building automation, navigation devices, security and medical devices.
Orchid is a standard carrier board for projects demanding for a short time-to-market or low development costs.
